LTL / LCL is a type of freight transportation that combines shipments from multiple customers on the same truck / container. LTL / LCL transport is affordable because you share the transportation costs with other companies by using a third-party logistics (3PL) operator (a forwarding company) to organize the transport. Each client takes up a portion of the truck / container for their goods and pays for the freight only according to the amount of product shipped (chargeable weight) and the length of travel.

LTL / LCL shipments often make several stops and sometimes make transshipments. The cargo will take longer to reach the destination but you will save on freight costs. An experienced forwarding company will save you money by matching your shipments with regular scheduled shipments heading to the same destination.
